Becky Player has Skills!

Becky Player was the first person to talk to me when I moved to Huntsville.  She will always hold a special place in my heart for that... AND the fact that she's a quilter, AND a professional cake decorator, AND likes to go to lunch, AND is a little bit on the ornery side. All good qualities for friendship and, as if she needed to be a better friend, she baked us a pumpkin pie! After hearing of the "pie crust incident", she must have felt bad for Jeff!  It wasn't just any "run o' the mill" pumpkin pie, this one was beautiful!  Pie crust leaves all around the edge and in the center.   The bottom crust was perfect,...

Banana Bread - June's Famous Recipe

Recipe: Banana BreadSummary: Every fall when I was growing up, the fair would come to town. Spicy Dutch Oven Chicken

Recipe: Spicy Dutch Oven Chicken Summary: This delicious chicken stew was inspired by a recipe I found on the food network website.  I think I had some leeks, but no onions.  No wine, either. Ingredients ¼ cup unsalted butter ¼ cup olive oil 8 pieces chicken (2 breasts cut in half, 2 thighs, 2 legs) Salt and pepper 2 carrots, cut into ½” pieces 2 leeks, split and cut in ½” pieces 1 pound red potatoes 1 Granny Smith apple, peeled and cut into 8 wedges...

Zesty Meatloaf

Recipe: Zesty Meatloaf Summary: No one likes to admit they like meatloaf. Maybe, it's the name. Someone should come up with a better one. I think it was my son, Ben, that came up with "Meat Salad Pie Cake". So, here it is folks... a pretty stinkin' good Meat Salad Pie Cake recipe. You'll love it with garlic mashed potatoes. It's a Marilyn Harris recipe. Ingredients 3 tablespoons olive oil 1 cup chopped onion 2 large garlic cloves 2 pounds ground sirloin 2 eggs 2 tablespoons milk 1 cup bread crumbs ¼ cup parsley 2 tablespoons basil 1½ teaspoon salt ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper 1 cup ketchup 2 tablespoons liquid from canned jalapeños 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard ¼ teaspoon hot...
