Recipe: Meatballs and Mushrooms

Summary: Another June Morris special... Ate this about one go-zillion times growing up. Just be grateful I'm not digging out the recipe for the nasty white cream sauce and weird, dried, formed beef-like substance and served on toast. Some memories NEED to be supressed.


  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon chopped onion
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • ⅔ cup bread crumbs
  • 1 can evaporated milk
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • ½ cup water


  1. Mix ground beef, onion, salt, pepper, bread crumbs and ½ cup milk.
  2. Fry meatballs in skillet, turning often. This method makes a big mess, but the flavor is much better. OR Bake meatballs at 400° for 20 minutes.
  3. Mix remaining milk, soup and water. Simmer with meatballs 30 minutes.
  4. Serve over rice, pasta or mashed potatoes.
