Brownie Bites

Recipe: Brownie Bites

Summary: These are more affectionately known around our house as Kiss-off Kookies because of the surprising center of every cookie. They have a brownie texture and are a staple for any self-respecting chocoholic.

  • 12 ounces chocolate chips
  • ¼ cup (half stick) butter
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • ½ cup chopped nuts (optional)
  • Approx. 60 Hershey Kisses
  • 1 teaspoon shortening
  • 2 ounces white chocolate chips

  1. Unwrap kisses and set aside.
  2. Preheat oven to 350°.
  3. Melt chocolate chips and butter in a double-boiler. Add condensed milk and mix until smooth.
  4. Combine mixture with vanilla, flour, and nuts.
  5. Dough will be very stiff. MEASURE one tablespoon of dough and form a ball around a kiss.
  6. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet for 6-8 minutes. Balls will be soft and shiney. Cool completely on wire rack before glazing.
  7. Melt white chocolate and shortening together. Use a fork to drizzle over cooled balls on wire rack to decorate.

Quick Notes

You can use White Chocolate Candy Coating instead of chips and shortening.

Keep the dough covered with a damp paper towel and work quickly to form cookies.  When the dough dries out it can be very difficult to work with.

Instead of a plain kiss, try one of the other kinds like almond, caramel, or peppermint. At Christmas, I often make more of the white chocolate glaze and robe the cookies completely to make "snowballs". Top with a candy cinnamon dot and frosting leaves for a holly garnish or stack them to make little snowmen.
